A World of Dragons

Exploring Bai Tu Long bay by wooden junk

Travelling to Ha Long bay, and its less touristy neighbour Bai Tu Long, is a lesson in folklore. The bay is named after a descending dragon, fabled to have made her home here after protecting Vietnam from a sea-based invasion. The dragon’s children settled in Bai Tu Long bay.
Once you escape the hordes, sailing into the mysterious world of Bai Tu Long bay, it isn’t difficult to imagine that the tiny limestone islands represent creatures. It’s a peaceful place where traditional fishing still continues, beautiful caves hide in the peaks and sea eagles swoop around the coves.
